Thank God for Street Of Rage 4 am I right? What an outstanding title, that acted as a swift uppercut to the plums of anyone decrying side scrolling beat 'em ups as a dead genre and provided a time warp touchstone that teleported us all back to the day of couch co-op sessions as you and your mates obliterated controllers with repeated hammering of the buttons.

Yet there was one thing that was surprisingly and rather shockingly absent from the latest instalment, the ability to play as a giant boxing kangaroo! I know it sounds like I've officially lost the plot here but Streets of Rage 3 actually offered players the chance to unlock Roo (or Victy depending on your region), yet many players actually missed out on this character entirely.

During a boss encounter with Danch the BDSM clown will set Roo on you while he cowers in the back of the stage, prompting most players to send this poor creature six feet down under, but should you ignore this giant mass of fur and fury and instead keep attacking Danch, after the battle if Roo is still alive, he'll join the party!

Roo is a brilliant character to play because while he might not be able to pick up items (boxing gloves on the hands tend to inhibit that feature) you can absolutely knock the digeridoo straight out of dudes with his ridiculous strength stat. It's a shame that Streets of Rage 4 only gave us a glimpse of Roo, but we'll always have the good times.
