7 Reasons To Be Excited About Final Fantasy XV

6. Kingsglaive Sets Up The Story Perfectly

It's a joke almost as old as Final Fantasy XV itself. Yes, FFXV's main cast may look they've stepped straight out of a Japanese boyband, but there's a lot more to this crew of gents than absolutely perfect hair.

The main protagonist, Noctis, is actually in reality heir to the throne of the nation of Insomnia, one of the main locations in FFXV. His close friends are both his protectors and companions and - at the start of XV - all of them find themselves out in the wilds, fleeing from a huge threat.

Before reading any further - BEWARE SPOILERS FOR THE FF XV KINGSGLAIVE MOVIE.

Still reading? Good. In Kingsglaive, Insomnia is attacked by the nation of Niflheim as the two nations are signing a peace treaty. Suspecting that Niflheim is plotting something, King Regis, the leader of Insomnia, arranges in secret for Noctis and his friends to be shipped out of Insomnia long before the attack happens.

The twist? King Regis is killed during the events of Kingsglaive (well, he was played by Sean Bean, so this had to happen), which means Noctis is now technically the king of Insomnia. He's also due to married to Princess Lunafreya of Niflheim, who is also heavily involved in the plot of XV's companion movie.

This is classic Final Fantasy; you have a protagonist out of their depth, in the middle of a huge war, primed and ready to get involved in a sprawling narrative while - of course - stopping off for a bit of sidequesting.

Noctis' tale is seemingly shaping up to be a good one already. If you haven't yet watched Kingsglaive and are interested in FFXV, I'd highly recommend going and watching it as it is a truly fantastic introduction to the world of XV and Noctis' story.
