7 Terrible Video Games You MUST Play

5. Crystal Monsters

Some games term themselves as "homages" to other titles, others as "spiritual successors" when it comes to delivering experiences that are similar to others. Crystal Monsters however has far less tact than this and straight-up steals pretty much everything from the Pokemon series.

While this should posit the title at the top of every player's hit list, for one reason, and one reason alone, this charlatan is given a pass. It's discount ditto fare through and through, but the game is aware of this. Honestly, the developers ape the Poke-series so hard that it should be making a Mankey out players, but actually leans into the copy-paste mentality in the right areas so well it's actually pretty engaging!

If you're going to steal from someone, steal from the best! While it might feel so overtly familiar, from the art style to the very concept itself, the game has borrowed all the best bits of Pokemon and ran with it as best it could. Sure it's not as polished, and sure blatant rip-offs like this are a detriment to the industry, but as a clone game, you can't do much better than this! An imitation is a form of flattery, and Crystal Monsters is a Tesco-brand Mr. Mime working it's bloody socks off.
