7 Things We Hope To See In The Demon’s Souls Remake
3. Less Convoluted Upgrade Paths
FromSoftware are often oblique regarding their own game mechanics, forcing their fans to learn the intricacies of the systems by trial and error, or consult external guides for explanations which were wholly absent in the actual game.
For a lot of fans, piecing together this information is part of the fun, but few would disagree that at times the developer takes it a little far.
A perfect example would be the materials you’ll need to upgrade your weapons and armour – something which is vital to success in these notoriously difficult games.
Demon’s Souls doesn’t make it easy though, with no less than 16 distinct upgrade materials, and each of those split into three sub-types: shards, chunks and pure. So, it’s actually closer to 48 upgrade materials.
To add insult to injury, these items are given names which bear little relation with their use (how anyone would intuit what “Cloudstone” is used for is beyond me). Some are only obtainable as rare drops from enemies, meaning you’ll waste hours hoping RNG will grant you that “Pure Bladestone” you’ve been farming for.
Of all the points on this list, this change is the most likely. Even FromSoftware simplified this system when it appeared in Dark Souls.
