7 Upcoming Video Games That Could Cause Major Controversies
5. Spider-Man Relies Too Much On Quick Time Events
Gameplay footage was finally shown off of the PS4 exclusive Spider-Man game at E3 2017, and the reception was mostly positive. There was, however, a very large and obvious problem present throughout almost the entire trailer.
There are WAY too many quick time events.
It's necessary to point out that the gameplay segment shown was incredibly cinematic in nature. The collapsing crane was an awesome spectacle for sure. The problem comes with how much of the rest of the game is dependent on QTEs in order to drive the gameplay forward.
While the fighting segments did allow for some freedom, almost everything else would require to simply mash some buttons. There's some very clear problems with this. First and foremost, QTEs are one of the laziest way to input gameplay without giving players the actual means to complete the tasks.
While there are games that rely entirely on QTEs and do it well, unless Spider-Man is being developed by Telltale, players are going to want to play as Spider-Man. Not sit through mildly interactive cut scenes.
Having a large dependence on QTEs is surely going to have a negative affect on the game's quality, and subsequently affect sales. Hopefully, we will get more footage soon that shows what we want: more Spidey, less random button pushing.
