7 Upcoming Video Games That Could Cause Major Controversies
4. Anthem Shows That Bioware Hasn't Learned Anything
Bioware is developing a new game, and it looks like there will be a large amount of focus placed on an open world and multiplayer components.
If this were being written six months ago, you would have thought that previous sentence was about Mass Effect: Andromeda.
Hopefully, Bioware learns from its mistakes. While Andromeda certainly was not the flaming hot pile of garbage that the internet would lead you to believe, it's hard to deny the fact that it was disappointing on so many fronts, including many aspects that Bioware are legendary for: plot, characters, and writing.
Andromeda should have been the masterpiece of storytelling that the original Mass Effect trilogy and the Dragon Age trilogy were (yes, that is including Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age II). So with a new game from the Canadian developer on the horizon, it's difficult not to worry.
With EA also on board, it's immediately easy to be cynical as to how this game will end up. Clearly the drive with Andromeda was to push it onto shelves as quickly as possible, and design it in such a way in order to maximize sales revenue.
Anthem doesn't have the legacy or expectations that Andromeda was saddled with. But when a company such as Bioware has lost so much of its good will from its fan base, Anthem needs to be something more than simply a decent-at-best money maker.
