7 Video Game Character Redesigns That Directly Insulted The Fans

4. Mortal Kombat 9 - Pretty Much Everyone

Devil may cry
NetherRealm

The year was 2011 and Netherrealm was rebooting a tired series and they gave it the zest to the combat system that it needed. It felt great to play, it had a passable story line and voice acting which is more than any other fighting game of the time and was pretty well balanced.

But come on guys. I know that gratuity is a selling point to the Mortal Kombat franchise but MK9 but honestly you can get a similar visual experience by just mashing two sex dolls together for 10 minutes. Sexualising characters has always been a part of the Mortal Kombat series but MK9 was the perfect opportunity to reboot the series with a bit more realism rather than just doubling down on the double D’s.

It just feels like Netherrealm lacked enough faith that a revamped story, combat system and core mechanics without resorting to hilarious levels of sex appeal to get gamers to buy the thing. Not all gamers are sexually repressed basement dwellers, Netherrealm.

I play for my repressed love of violence, not for repressed horniness, stop trying to shove boobs in my face.

At least by the time MKX rolled around the characters look like people not the inflatable contents of Tom Cruise’s cupboard, but even now I can’t kick ass as Sonya back in MK9 without a faint glimmer of shame.
