7 Video Game Character Redesigns That Directly Insulted The Fans

3. Knuckles - Sonic Boom: Rise Of Lyric

Devil may cry
Sega

Sega’s like an old dog who was a loyal companion back in the late 1990s but now just craps all over your living room rug and tries to hump your games console. Once great, now just plain embarrassing. Take a look at the mess they made of Knuckles in Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric released for the Wii U back in 2014.

Yes the design sucks but the main ‘'f*ck you'’ here is Sega’s wilful choice to ignore the problems Sonic has been suffering under ever since it’s transition to three dimensions. Sonic Boom was a chance to solve issues with terrible gameplay, cut the annoying sideline characters and tell an engaging story for a franchise that’s had no good new ideas since Sonic 3.

But no, Sega chose to overhaul design rather than actually listen to their fans. Instead the designers ignored criticisms from their past missteps and just assumed a character redesign would fix everything. Well it didn’t Sega. Knuckles looks like a triangle who grew arms and skips leg day. He might think he’s cool now but by the time he’s 35 he’ll be paralysed with lower back pain because benching 200kg doesn’t mean sh*t if you’ve never done a single squat. Oh, and they also made him into a total idiot for good measure.
