7 Video Games You Didn’t Realise Were Sequels

5. Duke Nukem 3D - Duke Nukem

It's hard to admit that a game as immature and tasteless as Duke Nukem 3D is one of the most important games in the development of the first person shooter genre.

Doom and Wolfenstein 3D were focused exclusively on gameplay yet Duke Nukem 3D created more realistic settings and gave a voice to the protagonist, something that wasn't really done in FPS's until the games' release.

It might feel like some weird game concocted by a really horny teenager who hates it that women always look at them funny but the game is important.

The thing is though, Duke Nukem 3D isn't the first Duke Nukem game. Yeah it may be obvious to some but the original Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem II are never brought up in conversation so it's easy to assume that the 3D entry is the first in the series.

The reason nobody talks about the original game is because it's not that noteworthy. It's a pretty alright side-scrolling shooter, there's not much to say about it. At least it’s not as bad as Duke Nukem Forever.
