7 Video Games You Didn’t Realise Were Sequels

4. Mario Tennis - Mario’s Tennis

When Mario Tennis was released on the N64 a new franchise was born - or at least that's what most people think. The franchise actually started on the Virtual Boy five years prior with Mario's Tennis.

Mario's Tennis lacks the charm of the rest of the franchise, being just regular tennis with a lacklustre cast of Mario characters. The N64 version of the game introduced the iconic character Waluigi, Mario's Tennis is stuck with Donkey Kong Jr..

The game is one of the better games on the Virtual Boy but only because it's the Virtual Boy, it's not exactly home to many stellar experiences.

It's clear that the idea of Mario sports games being a wacky unrealistic affair wasn't really a thing yet. Mario's Tennis seems to want to be a regular tennis game which just happens to star the Mario cast.

If for some reason the only console you have is a Virtual Boy, firstly... why? Secondly, I guess you could do worse, but the Mario Tennis franchise only went up from here.
