7 World War I Video Games You Should Definitely Play
4. Victoria II
Games based on the First World War are so rich in variety that it's inevitable a strategy game would appear eventually. Victoria II comes from the grandmasters of this niche Paradox, who decided to encompass a large portion of 19th and 20th century European history in one game, allowing the player to select any major or minor European power to have a go on the world stage at the time.
Containing all the usual grand strategem of their endeavours but refined and simplified, Victoria II is a joy to play for any potential future military leader or any fans of historical campaigns. It's also a great "what if?" simulator, allowing you to really discover if the Great War would have happened if Ferdinand had gone to Russia instead of Serbia. Probably still not too smart, but engaging regardless.
Paradox have been at the forefront of grand strategy games for years, and Victoria II is yet another reason why their claim to that throne is so solid. It may not be as recent as Crusader Kings III, but it's arguably more historically relevant than those games, not to mention it is a phenomenal European facial hair simulator on top of all of it.
