8 Best Nintendo Switch Launch Games - Ranked

A lot of the Switch's launch lineup - and part of Nintendo's charm overall - has been rekindling that old-school sense of why we game, both through specific genres, game mechanics and how certain developers approach the medium.

As such, I Am Setsuna is a turn-based JRPG in the most traditional of moulds, and whilst it's already been out on PS4 and Vita since February, there's something about carrying a tiny world around in your pocket 24/7 that makes it right at home on the Switch.

Nintendo have also licensed some exclusive battle arena DLC to distinguish their version, but for the most part this is a hark back to the late 90s, when JRPGs ruled the world. I'm talking top-down perspectives, grinding to level up, world maps dotted with villages to sell your gear and a mystical, "Save the world from unspeakable evil" narrative.

Square Enix actually set up the aptly-named 'Tokyo RPG Factory' to develop old-school RPGs specifically, and it shows. I Am Setsuna is one of the most underrated RPGs of the generation so far, and if the last time anything scratched your turn-based itch was Final Fantasy X, it'll be all your dreams come true.
