8 Bizarre Reasons Video Games Were Pulled From Sale
5. Liberty City Stories
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories on the PlayStation Portable is the only entry on this list that was banned for a few different reasons. Most notably, it was banned in Germany and Saudi Arabia due to graphic content - although a censored version was later released in Germany.
More interestingly, the game was recalled and patched not long after release due to an exploit that could be performed whenever you saved the game.
Due to an oversight, whenever LCS was saved, it was possible to temporarily bypass several of the PSP's safety functions and install homebrew files - allowing players to hack the system with ease.
Original copies of the game were recalled to combat the issue, and updates for both the game and the PSP's system hardware were also released to patch the oversight. It was, unfortunately for Sony, far too late.
Players who owned the original copy of the game could simply not allow the updates, either for their PSP or the game, and install homebrew that allowed them to break the PSP wide open instead. This caused second-hand copies of the original Liberty City Stories pressing to temporarily skyrocket.
