8 Bizarre Reasons Video Games Were Pulled From Sale

Limbo of the Lost was a point-and-click game released in 2007, developed by the now defunct Majestic Studios and released exclusively on PC. It was absolutely slated upon release for being generally rubbish.

Poor gameplay wasn't the only thing people took issue with though, as it was immediately discovered that several assets were stolen from other games - including, but certainly not limited to, Oblivion, Thief, Crysis, and Diablo 2.

This wasn't just a case of a developer using assets from a publicly available library. Original artwork and music were directly copied from games without the developers or publishers' permission. The outrage that followed was swift and extremely well publicised, but it wasn't until early 2008, after the game had already been released in the US, that the title was recalled and never republished.

Developers Majestic Studios released an apology and stated that nobody "knew about about this infringement and knowingly played a part in it", but the damage was already done. The buzz surrounding the game undoubtedly resulted in a lot more press for the game than any advertising campaign could have achieved, which likely resulted in higher sales than were initially anticipated.
