2. Syphon Filter
This one is really intriguing. Syphon Filter was released back in 1999 for the PS1, then 2 and 3 were released in 2000 and 2001, both for PS1. Since then theres been a PS2 game which wasnt similar to the others, two great PSP titles and an online-only game on PSN in 2007. For years fans have been clamouring for a Syphon Filter 4 or even a reboot but have yet to get any. Fans wanted, and to an extent, expected to see Syphon Filter on the PS3 at some point but, much like Jak, were left disappointed. The series was developed by Sony Bend, who recently made Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Resistance Retribution, two of Sonys finest handheld games. However Bend have yet to try their hand at a console game since the PS2, maybe theyre working on a PS4 title right now. Maybe that title is Syphon Filter, maybe its another Vita game, either way we should find out within the next year. Theyre clearly a talented studio and much like Ready At Dawn, who went from making God of War for the PSP to the impressive looking The Order: 1886 for PS4, they should be trying their hand at something bigger. That being said Uncharted Golden Abyss is one of the best Vita games to date and it could do with some more great titles, be it another Uncharted or something else. Bend have shown their reliability for taking established franchises and bringing them to handhelds, so maybe Sony have them working on an inFamous Vita game. It seems likely they are making another Vita game, probably a follow-up to Golden Abyss, which wouldnt be a bad thing. However maybe Bend have done like so many other Sony-owned studios and split into two teams, one working on Vita games, the other on PS4. Maybe the lack of Syphon Filter is due to similar stealth-action spy games like Splinter Cell that were massive successes and dominated the market. Maybe the lack of Syphon Filter comes down to modest sales figures. Im not sure what the reason is but I do think theres still a market for a game like Syphon Filter, however Splinter Cell is quite the behemoth in that genre and the latest title, Blacklist, looks like it might be the best Splinter Cell yet. Meaning any Syphon Filter game would have to be really great to compete with titles like that. Sony Bend is working on something, we dont know what but theyve been working on it since at least 2011. Their last game was Uncharted: Fight For Fortune in 2012, a card-based strategy game that obviously didnt require their full attention. The smart-money would be on another Uncharted Vita game but I wouldnt be surprised if they were toiling on a PS4 title, probably a new IP. So as for Syphon Filter, chances are itll either receive the Vita treatment at some point, or it will receive a reboot one day. I doubt weve seen the last of Gabe Logan but its entirely unclear when or in what fashion well ever see him again.
