4. Give The Final Boss Your Gun, He Shoots Himself - Rule Of Rose

Nothing says dumber-than-dumb like willingly handing over the only weapon you've got to the Big Bad, yet in cult survival horror game Rule of Rose, it's the only way to get the good ending.

In the game's climax, player character Jennifer is forced to face off against the malevolent entity known as Stray Dog, and moments before the boss battle they're handed a gun, with which they're told they can stop him once and for all.

The key word here being "stop," not kill, yet all the same, players can't be blamed if they instantly start pugging away at Stray Dog with the gun and attacking him until he dies.

However, this actually ends up triggering the game's bad ending, whereby Jennifer ends up alone and has failed to save everyone.

To unlock the good ending, where Jennifer comes to terms with her past, you need to do the most counter-logic thing possible - give the gun to Stray Dog.

This will trigger a closing cutscene where a guilt-riddled Stray Dog takes the revolver and shoots himself in the head.

Given that players typically expect their games to end with an epic final showdown, willingly giving up your only advantage seemed like a non-starter to most, even if it's ultimately the only way to truly triumph. Wild.
