8 Essential Features Every Future Video Game Desperately Needs

2. Photo Modes

Photo modes are just ace, end of. You can count the amount of titles that include them right now on two hands, but from The Last of Us' remaster to Mad Max, Shadow of Mordor and Batman: Arkham Knight, there's something about being able to pause the action, detach the camera and start framing your own custom masterpieces that's just endlessly entertaining. About to land a spinning back-kick as Batman, sending an enemy careening into a pack of his fellow goons? Pause it, reposition the camera and take a snap, it's that simple. So far photo modes have been one of the only things to makes the screenshot functionality of the new consoles worthwhile, and there's nothing better when replaying a game than pausing, removing the HUD and getting your inner Spielberg on.
