8 Exact Moments Video Games Split Their Fanbase In Two
4. When Your O.G. Pokemon Got Ditched - Pokemon Sword And Shield
I'm pretty sure that if you went up to a random person over the age of 20 and said: "Catch 'Em Catch 'Em Gotta Catch 'Em All" that they would probably instantly respond with "Pokemon", well unless they were from Chelsea and then they'd correct your use of "Em" to "Them" then beat you with their top hat as you're making them late for their caviar and oil dinner.
Still, I digress, Pokemon is a very embedded concept is what I'm trying to get at, and as such nearly every Poke fan worth their salt knows that they have but one goal in life and that is to bloody well "Catch 'Em All"
Except there's just one problem, there sure are a lot of the little fuckers around.
This was clearly a problem for GameFreak who knew that adding in more and more pocket monsters was only going to lead to burst seams on our comfy shorts down the line, and so it was down to Pokemon Sword and Shield to take one for the team and become the first title in the mainline series to remove creatures from the roster.
As you can imagine this went down like a lead balloon splitting the fanbase as if Scyther had had a pop at them. Some understood the need for limitation, that it would allow the series to grow, and were focused on the other plus points of the title. Yet others just couldn't get over how some of their original lineups was nowhere to be seen.
