8 Gaming Easter Eggs You Won't Believe
7. Diablo II - Secret Cow Level
This easter egg is one of my favorites, and definitely one of the most ridiculous I've ever seen. By combining two items in Diablo II, the player was able to create a portal to the "Moo Moo Farm", which is comprised of massive, bipedal, battleaxe-wielding bovines. Once the player manages to slay the dreaded Cow King, the level cannot be accessed again on the same difficulty.
The fact that such an absurd area exists within a game steeped in heavy fantasy makes the Secret Cow Level a shoo-in for this list.
6. Chrono Trigger - Developer's Room
Chrono Trigger was a game that had an amazing amount of depth. It basically laid the foundation for the "multiple endings" concept that is so ubiquitous in games today. Not only did the developers spend their time carefully sculpting the game, but they also included a hilarious and surreal "developer's room" after the player concluded the story. Several game developers can be found in the area, and their responses vary from admonishment to congratulations to inane questions.
This is one of the most special easter eggs in all of video games specifically because the player can actually communicate with the people that created the game they just sank a dozen hours into. It's essentially the video game equivalent of having the manager of a fine restaurant come to your table and thank you for choosing his restaurant.
