8 Great Trailers For Underwhelming Video Games
1. Dead Island
The original Dead Island had a disastrous release. It was marred by technical issues, frustrating gameplay and a final product that delivered on very little of the developers promises.
However bad the game was, it had what is widely regarded as one of the best trailers in gaming and even in all of media. Critics lauded the trailer for its tone and emotion. The end result is something more akin to a short film than a standard video game trailer.
The 2007 reveal trailer, which is mostly presented in reverse, shows a family on vacation having to fight off a few zombies. The heart-breaking images of the infected daughter attacking her parents before we see how everything had led up to that moment, as well as how the story is presented, is a stroke of pure genius.
The trailer was even set to be adapted into a movie. Yes, the trailer, not the main game. This is a stand out example that all you need are a few minutes to engage with your audience if you can effectively tell your story.
You really feel that this trailer deserved a lot more than what the Dead Island series has become.
