8 Insanely Different Versions Of The SAME Video Game
5. Alien 3
While it's pretty safe to say that Alien 3 is one of the worst movies in the illustrious sci-fi franchise, the video games it spawned we anything but the confusing mess we witnessed in cinemas. However, it does seem that the project's infamous studio meddling and confused throughline does seem to have resulted in a pair of titles that share the same name but very little else.
Alien 3 for the Snes and Genesis couldn't be more different an experience, with the former playing much like a Metroid game, focusing on exploration, puzzle-solving, and the constant building of a tense atmosphere, and the Genesis version preferring instead to dial up the action, hitting players with enemies around every corner and pushing them onwards with hectic time limits.
This actually provides a really interesting examination of the creation of "fear" in video games, as the SNES version draws out its set pieces and as such allows the threat of the Xenomorphs to build fear slowly within the player. On the other hand, the Genesis entry slams the player with danger and uses the time limit to make every action carry consequences, resulting in a frantic rush!
So depending on how you like your horror Alien 3 has got you covered!
