6. Scorpion's Spear (Mortal Kombat)

The sound of an overly gruff voice screaming "GET OVER HERE!" was engrained into the psyche of all arcade goers in the early 1990's thanks to the legendary franchise Mortal Kombat.

This amazing catchphrase is a precursor to the most iconic move in fighting game history. It was present at the inception of the franchise in 1992... and Scorpion is unmistakable because of it.

Over the years the franchise has produced lots of iconic moves; Raiden's electric flight, Lua Kang's bicycle kicks, Reptiles acid spit, Kung Lao's hat throw and of course Johnny Cage's infamous nut punch. However, due to it being the signature move of the series' most beloved character the spear is the most memorable of all.

There're three components to the its resultant gameplay that have given the spear its decades long staying power. First is the aforementioned soundbite, then the trademark gruesome blood splatter and finally the endlessly satisfying, almost law bound, uppercut that follows.

The way the spear is woven into, and compliments, the gameplay of this legendary fighter franchise is exactly why fans find it so endearing. It allows your terrified opponent no time to relax, and means they're constantly uneasy when fighting you.

It's just great.
