1. Nier: Automata - Everything

Nier: Automata practically wrote a whole new rulebook on messing with the player at every step, including 26 different endings, the bulk of which are jokes designed to reward players actively trying to break the game and subvert what the developers "intended" them to do.

Just about anything can trigger one of these quick climaxes, including taking the power chip out of your playable android, running away from objectives or eating a fish that instantly kills you. Each and every one is wackier than the last, which makes it hard to pick a favourite, but for my money it will be the one that triggers if you go fishing during a particularly time-sensitive moment in the main story.

The title will cut to black if you decide to try your luck and catch some big game, chastising you for leaving your post to do something that definitely shouldn't have taken precedent over saving the whole world.

This is just a drop in the bucket though, and some of them you'll have to see to believe.
