8 Most ANTI-CLIMACTIC Video Game Deaths
2. Jesse - The Last of Us Part II
The thesis central to The Last of Us Part II is that revenge isn't glamorous and rarely worth it, often resulting in sudden, brutal, un-heroic death.
Case in point we have Jesse, one of the game's most prominent and likeable supporting characters - the fundamentally chill ex-boyfriend of Dina who also happens to be the father of her child.
It helps that Naughty Dog sidestepped most of the melodrama surrounding the love triangle between him, Dina, and Ellie, helping players quickly warm to his whole vibe.
But this only made it that much more shocking and painful, then, when he's shot and killed out of nowhere half-way through the game as Abby ambushes Ellie's group.
There's no heroic final moment or moving death soliloquy for Jesse - he's simply shot in the head and falls to the floor in an instant, heartbreakingly depriving a child of their father before they're even born.
Though Jesse's death left many fans upset, on a dramatic level it absolutely works, serving the game's themes perfectly rather than delivering mere jolting shock value.
