5. Gaiar Alata - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
It's incredibly easy to be lured in by Oblivion's Gaiar Alata, given that it's also called Paradise, and on an initial glimpse certainly appears to live up to that moniker.
Mankar Camoran's realm is a superficial beauty alright, defined by endless trees, peaceful bodies of water, ornate ruins, and thoroughly Instagrammable sunsets.
But it's all ultimately a sham, Mankar convincing members of his cult, the Order of the Mythic Dawn, that dying in his service will send them to the idyllic Paradise.
But "Paradise" really has more in common with Hell beneath the surface, as Mankar's followers will be attacked by the pesky daedra, and upon dying, will be resurrected to be further tortured.
Oh, and then there's the Forbidden Grotto - a cave filled with lava and cages which can be lowered down into the drink. Yeah, you get the idea.
It's a damn shame that Gaiar Alata had to be the sandbox of a maniacal cult leader, because it sure does look purty up top.
