8 Most Brutally Violent Video Game Moments Of 2017 (So Far)
6. Fighting Mia In Resident Evil 7
After the dismal release of the sixth game and a divisive overhaul that saw the series move away from its third-person roots and adopt a new first-person perspective, developers at Capcom had a lot to prove with Resident Evil 7.
But that desire to prove themselves is probably what resulted in Resident Evil 7's opening hour being so damn intense. The first section of the title throws you straight into the deep end, rendering you practically defenceless as you're stalked and beaten by your possessed girlfriend, Mia.
In an attempt to prove that anything could happen in Resident Evil 7, the game spends its opening completely mutilating both your character and everyone they come into contact with.
After a bunch of visceral, in-your-face scenes, including a particularly horrible moment where Mia repeatedly bashes her head off a wall and knocks herself out, the biggest shock comes when you accidentally kill her while defending yourself with an axe.
When you turn around however her body disappears, and the next time you see her she pins your hand against the wall with a screwdriver and then chops it off completely with a chainsaw.
There's probably gorier moments to find in Resident Evil 7, but the violence never feels more intense or brutal than in this opening scene.
