8 Nintendo Switch Criticisms That Also Apply To The PS4 & Xbox One

4. "Pointless Controller Features"

Speaking of hardware features, yes, the Switch retains its motion controls, introduces an IR sensor and the potentially pointless 'HD rumble', but it does so with at least one dedicated first-party game in mind: 1-2-Switch.

Hop across to the PS4 and Xbox One, and what do we see? The Dualshock 4's touchpad, which to this day has not seen a single worthwhile use since 2013. The topmost LED light, who's only purpose appears to be draining battery life even faster, and on the Xbox front, "all-new" rumbling triggers, which despite giving off the impression they'd make us "feel like we were cornering in a racing game", vibrate like your phone before it has a meltdown.

All of this speaks to Nintendo's approach to designing hardware, which is to say, they'll assemble a number of different hardware innovations, before letting developers do whatever they like after the fact. Such a continuation of off-kilter features is definitely not the norm, but to act as though Sony and Microsoft didn't also do the same is just incorrect.

For a laugh, let me know your favourite touchpad uses in the comments below. I'm going for Until Dawn's "swipe to twist-crack a glowstick".
