5. No Time Reversal Mechanic - Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown

With the gaming industry absolutely stuffed with Metroidvania titles nowadays, it didn't seem like a great time for Prince of Persia to switch to that genre.

Although PoP: The Lost Crown doesn't reinvent the wheel, it stands out over its peers, thanks to its responsive controls, fluid platforming, creative mechanics, and accessible combat.

Having said that, it's easy to see why some Prince of Persia fans would be disappointed to learn the gameplay doesn't focus on time reversal. Our hero's time-travel powers have defined the series for years, which is why it's odd how they weren't included, not to mention instrumental in this installment.

It'd be like making a Mario game where the Italian plumber couldn't jump. I'm sure Nintendo could still make a great game out of it, but why take away the one element the character is best known for?

What's more disappointing is that some of The Lost Crown's best moments centre around the gameplay going all timey-wimey. One of the coolest levels involves a sea battle frozen in place, with our hero able to reactivate the time-flow as he progresses. Messing with time like isn't just fun and imaginative - it captures the spirit of the original.

Even though reversing time to avoid death was one of the most satisfying aspects of the classic games, that's not the case here. Instead, our beloved prince is plonked on a nearby platform each time he perishes, which is far less cinematic.
