3. It Becomes A Slog By The End - Sea Of Stars

Calling Sea of Stars a love letter to '90s JRPGs doesn't do it justice. Sabotage Studio's title invokes everything that made turn-based games of that era feel special, while still managing to stay fresh.

Although the pixelated art and catchy chiptunes provide heartwarming nostalgia for classic role-players, Sea of Stars stands on its own, thanks to its charismatic cast, innovative puzzles, and enchanting story.

Then there's the combat. Similar to Super Mario RPG, the battle system relies on timed hits to maximise damage. Since fighting involves co-ordinated attacks, specific commands, and precision, each encounter is far more engaging and therefore, less tedious. Although grinding is present in even the best RPGs, Sea of Stars doesn't have this issue.

At least, at first. But after 10-20 hours, you might miss the mindless grinding. Unlike standard RPGs, players can't really switch their brain off in battle, meaning they have to constantly concentrate to ensure they nail each attack and parry.

Every. Single. Time.

For this reason, it would've been much appreciated if Sea of Stars had an option to switch the combat to a more traditional form.
