6. MyFaction Expansion
As well as the aforementioned technical and gameplay improvements, 2K22 brought along with it a host of new modes. Chief among them was MyFaction - a mode where players could curate their own wrestling faction through the medium of playing cards.
Briefly, MyFaction tasked players with winning matches against the computer to earn MyFaction points, which could be spent on booster packs containing wrestlers, managers and cosmetics. It was unsurprisingly addictive, as the allure of opening a booster pack and sorting through the spoils remains a gruesomely effective way of ensuring player engagement. (FIFA Ultimate Team being perhaps the most notorious example).
Unfortunately, as anyone who's played any NBA2K game over the past few years can tell you, 2K love nothing more than flogging virtual currencies to their players. Expect MyFaction to follow suit, as 2K will likely take the mode online this year in the hope that PvP competition boosts the sales of MyFaction Points to those with more money than sense.
Which is something of a shame - we quite enjoyed MyFaction as a solely single-player pursuit. But the siren-call of pay-to-win gaming has proven irresistible to many a publisher, and 2K will likely follow suit this year.
