8 Reasons EA Aren't Doing As Bad As You Think
4. Battlefront 2 Sales
There was a moment on the internet when EA released the sales figures for Battlefront 2 and everyone cheered a collective cheer of victory because it undersold by a million copies. Sounds like good news, right? Well, it's more like mediocre news at best.
A million copies aren't that much in terms of a triple-A title. In the grand scheme of things, that isn't bad. The trouble with Battlefront 2 is that it was a sequel - one built using a pre-developed engine with pre-existing assets and a pre-existing gameplay model.
Development of the game wouldn't have been nearly as much as the original.
So, the projected sales figures aren't that damning and are ultimately just a case of overambition hopes. The game will have almost undoubtedly recouped it's losses and probably made a profit via the use of their incredibly predatory loot box system. So, whilst it is a victory in the sense that gamers aren't as likely to buy into EA's games, it isn't the crippling blow we all hoped for.
