In a neat throwback to Peter David's seminal Cometh the Commuter arc from Spidey's Bronze Age books, Insomniac's wall-crawler will be able to hop on the subway to fast-travel around New York. Players will also get the chance to interact with New York's upstanding citizens as well, taking selfies and saying hello if they choose to do so.
As Spider-Man 2 displayed so brilliantly, it's the little things that best allow players to immerse themselves as Spider-Man. That game succeeded by providing players with the opportunity to just swing around and intervene in petty crimes, rescue civilians from rooftops and capsizing watercraft and - sigh - return balloons to the city's unlucky youngsters. It was great (again, bar the balloons), but now Insomniac are doing one better by showing Spidey's importance to the city at large.
Don't forget that the web-head is the people's superhero - the friendly neighbourhood character - and giving players the chance to interact with them is a major plus for immersion's sake.
