8 Remasters That Made Video Games WORSE
5. Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection
Of all the Assassin's Creed titles churned out over the past decade or so, one of the most fondly remembered by fans is Assassin's Creed II and its 2 follow-ups. Despite the gameplay now feeling dated and clunky compared to the more refined mechanics of later games, this was Assassin's Creed before it started feeling cynical and phoned in.
What better way to celebrate Ezio Auditore's adventures then, with a cynical, phoned in remastering of his trilogy of titles? Assassin's Creed: The Ezio collection, while conveniently wrapping all 3 titles into one neat little package, brings nothing new to the table.
Aside from some higher-res textures, the game in many ways looks worse - atmospheric effects such as fog and volumetric lighting are missing, causing the environments to lose a lot of their depth, and the original games' colour grading has been toned down, sacrificing the games' character for the sake of broader colour depth.
The fact that the collection was locked to 30fps on modern consoles also seemed an odd choice, as the PS4 and Xbox One would have easily handled and benefitted from slicker 60fps gameplay.
