Resident Evil games don't have stories that would win any awards, but each instalment in the franchise has boasted narratives that players have been able to lose themselves in, revelling in character twists and reveals that should be cringe-worthy, yet somehow work.

Consequently, even though the latest entry in the series tried its best to go back to basics and ground the horror in some semblance of reality, it still slipped one pulpy reveal in towards the end. Each member of the monstrous Baker family torments you throughout the title, but the wheelchair-bound grandmother never actually interacts with you.

She turns up constantly, but its simply to unnerve you by creepily watching your every move. There's something definitely off, but it's easy to forget she's there when you're being tormented by a creepy little girl who's also a bioweapon and responsible for all the horrors you've been subjected to.

However, a final twist reveals that the little girl isn't actually real, but simply an illusion. The young girl (suffering from rapid ageing on account of being a test-tube experiment) has been the old woman the whole time, causing havoc right under your nose.
