8 Terrible Video Games Made By Amazing Developers

4. Aliens: Colonial Marines - Gearbox Software

In charge of both the beloved Brothers in Arms franchise and the world-conquering Borderlands games, hopes were high that Gearbox Software could deliver the definitive Aliens video game experience. Although the project was seemingly stuck in development hell, the enthusiasm from the developers, and the trust they received to deliver a canonical sequel, was more than enough for fans to maintain faith in the project.

That faith was proved to be completely misplaced when the game actually dropped, though. A complete mess that looked nothing like the trailers promoting it, Colonial Marines was more of a Call of Duty clone than an Aliens game, with terrible gameplay, graphics and an insulting story.

The game was so bad that it ushered in a huge wave of controversy, as there were accusations that Gearbox had outsourced the development to an external studio and used some of the money to fund Borderlands 2 instead. So much for their supposed passion for this franchise.
