8 Terrifying Video Game Moments That Are Laughably Outdated Now
7. FEAR 2: Project Origin's Phantom Sexual Assault
When the Fear series was at its peak, you couldn't escape from seeing creepy pictures of the game's main antagonist, Alma, online. Looking pretty much identical to every black-haired little girl that littered horror movies in the 2000s, the villain constantly tormented players throughout the game by warping reality and infecting the minds of the main characters.
The ending of the second release tried to ramp this creep factor up even higher though, inter-cutting a scene where protagonist Beckett has to execute a demon version of one of his men with brief clips of Alma sexually assaulting him.
Once you finally shoot the guy, she fizzles away for a brief fake out, only to return nursing a pregnant belly a few seconds later. Putting your hand on her stomach, the camera pans up to her distorted face before cutting to black.
In theory the scene is insanely disturbing, and back in 2009 it sort of was. Everything about it just feels awkward now though; Alma writhing half naked on top of the player comes out of nowhere, while her digital disintegration completely sucks any remaining horror out the scene entirely.
