8 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About God Of War
5. Rewards For Exploring Never Seem Worth It
Exploring in God of War is one of the title's biggest strengths. Although levels are initially rather limited, once you hit the Lake of the Nine the title transforms into a metroidvania, semi open-world experience where you seek out hidden areas and find side quests off the beaten path.
While the actual main side missions make exploring worthwhile, there aren't enough of them. The areas themselves are as well-realised as anything in the main campaign, but they only house repetitive tasks.
The loot you get at the end of them is often random as well, and there's no way to make sure that an area will have anything worthwhile. There's still fun to be had adventuring on your own, but especially once the story starts getting into full swing, further exploration seems like more of an obligation than something you want to actively do.
Also, because there's only a few reliable ways to pinpoint and grind the items you need (avenues which only open up towards the end of the title, anyway), it can make the rewards for exploring seem even more random and dissatisfying.
