8 Things Nobody Wants To Admit About God Of War
4. Runic Builds Can Completely Break Combat
For the most part, God of War's combat is a brilliant game of push and pull; tasking you with knowing when to unleash a flurry of brutal attacks or pull back and play the defensive game. Though anyone can pick it up and have a good time, the system is deceptively deep, mixing in combos, light and heavy attacks, different stances, ranged throws, Atreus' powers, and special runic abilities.
Unfortunately, the latter part of that equation is ridiculously overpowered.
With up to four runic attacks available - two light and two heavy - by the end of the game a player who has upgraded their character to favour strength, runic and cooldown can pretty much decimate anyone by cycling through these four specials.
Yeah, you don't have to use them, but when you're up against ridiculously difficult bosses like the Valkyries or having to run through the same old areas located in Niflheim (more on that later), why wouldn't you exploit these tools to speed up the tedium?
