8 Times DLC Ruined The Base Game

Two story DLC packs were released for Assassin's Creed II - Battle of Forlì and Bonfire of the Vanities, adding around 3-4 hours of gameplay in total.

Battle of Forlì settles for merely being a dull addition to the main game, offering up six rote missions of largely little interest, save for a brief sequence in which you get to pilot Leonardo da Vinci's Flying Machine.

Bonfire of the Vanities is the far more egregious of the two DLCs, though - a tedious and occasionally frustrating bore which requires players to assassinate nine of Girolamo Savonarola's lieutenants.

Most of these hits stick firmly in formulaic territory for the series, but one stealth encounter onboard a ship ended up leaving a good swath of the fanbase damn-near tearing their hair out in exasperation.

Together, these DLCs absolutely murder the game's pacing - especially with Bonfire of the Vanities coming right near the end of the story - and if you're unlucky enough to play Assassin's Creed II as part of 2016's Ezio Collection, they're also mandatory for beating the story.

If you persevere enough to make it through, you might end up just resenting the whole damn game.
