8 Times The Internet Lied To You About Your Childhood Pokemon Cards

6. Any Pikachu Card Ever

Pikachu is one of the world’s most recognisable and beloved faces. Kids in America have more chance of recognising Pikachu, and strangely enough Ronald Mcdonald over their own president.

Surely this means every Pikachu card must be worth thousands, right? Well simply put, no it's not. Pikachu cards from the early sets, specifically Base Set and Jungle were all printed at the common rarity which means they come ten to the dozen, you pretty much got one in every pack and even twenty years later are only worth 10p-15p. 1st editions are worth anything from £1-£2 depending on the condition and set.

The wide appeal of Pokemon cards is you don't have to play the game to enjoy the medium, you can simply collect cards of your favourite Pokemon and this is most evident in Pikachu as so many people collect the titular characters cards because it's their favourite Pokemon and because of how much of an icon he's become.
