8 Titles That Proved Licensed Video Games Can Be Awesome

6. The Walking Dead

Telltale Games have much experience in working with established franchises. Over the past years they have released adventure games in a number of licensed games such as Jurassic Park, Wallace & Gromit, Back to the Future and Sam & Max. Yet their best release so far as undoubtedly been The Walking Dead. The title is inspired by Robert Kirkman€™s graphic novels rather than the TV show of the same name, and stays true to the art style of its source material. The game focuses on the morality of player choices as well as an emotional story. It demands the player make heart wrenching decisions throughout all five episodes. This requires you to relate to each of the characters in ways unknown in many other games. While the game does feature some action sequences and elements usually associated with adventure games (puzzle solving and item collecting) it instead focuses mostly on the narrative rather than gameplay. This can give the impression of being part of an interactive story rather than playing a game, but it works perfectly. The Walking Dead really has brought adventure games back to the forefront of gaming.
