8 Upcoming Star Wars Video Games That Have Fans Excited
3. Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Remake
Upon its original release in 2003, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) quickly became a fan-favourite, with the title consistently ranking as one of the best games the Star Wars IP has to offer.
So, when a remake of the critically-acclaimed game was announced at the PlayStation Showcase in 2021, it would have been an understatement to say fans were elated. Finally, gamers could experience one of the best Star Wars stories ever told, with modern graphics and gameplay.
Whilst the game was a dream come true for many, it has unfortunately proved to be a major headache for everyone involved in the project. Aspyr, a relatively new studio, was given the honour to work on the KOTOR redo, with many of the developers who worked on the original also returning for this project.
Initially, everything seemed to be going well, until the project was paused in July 2022, with Bloomberg's Jason Schreier claiming that Sony was unhappy with the KOTOR demonstration they were shown. Things went from bad to worse, with the game's design director and art director being fired, and eventually Aspyr was removed from the project and replaced by Saber Interactive.
The game was set for a 2023 release, though that now seems incredibly unlikely. KOTOR is probably still several years away, but hopefully the wait will be worthwhile.
