Ten years ago, many people in the gaming industry would have told you that Mortal Kombat was dying and it wouldn't be around much longer. The series had a rough run in the 2000s and it seemed like it was destined to go the way of other moment-in-time series like Duke Nukem, to name just one.

Not only did NetherRealm bring Mortal Kombat back from the brink of extinction, it established a new franchise in the form of Injustice. Spinning out of the Mortal Kombat X DC crossover game, NeatherRealm crafted an all-DC superhero fighting game and it was far from a mere cash-in.

Injustice was chockfull of Easter eggs and fan service, and it was clear those making the game were passionate about DC Comics. The story of Injustice transcended the game, becoming a popular series of comics. The second game was much better than the first and featured a story that embraced the madness of comics.

A third Injustice is inevitable, on next-gen consoles, and it should improve the series with greater visuals, tighter mechanics, a bigger roster, and a more epic story, making this series a dream for D.C fans. Now, when are we getting Marvel Vs. D.C?
