8 Upcoming Video Game Remakes That SHOULD NOT EXIST
4. Horizon Zero Dawn
There’s much debate about the acceptable minimum time period for a video game to be remade, and while a hard-and-fast rule probably isn’t the way to go, less than a decade does seem pretty damn premature.
Case in point, last year industry insiders began reporting that a Horizon Zero Dawn remake had entered development for PS5 under a different studio, no matter that the 2017 original remains one of the most visually impressive AAA releases of the last 10 years.
Furthermore, given that the game was released on PC in 2020 and received a PS5 enhancement patch shortly thereafter, it’s tough not to view this remake project as totally and utterly redundant.
With its well-aging visuals and gameplay, there’s little good reason to devote precious resources to remaking such a recent title, beyond Sony desperately trying to drain more blood from the stone that is Existing IP.
A remaster which simply ports over some of the refined gameplay systems from sequel Horizon Forbidden West wouldn’t be so bad, but a fully-fledged remake? This ain’t it, chief.
