6. Air Taser - Syphon Filter

Hands up those among us who spent hours and hours of their childhood playing Syphon Filter just to piss about with the Air Taser. Yup.

Because the game’s high level of difficulty made progressing through the story a bit of a slog, for many a player Syphon Filter basically morphed into Air Taser Simulator and never went back.

The Air Taser is pretty much exactly what it says on the tin - a seemingly conventional pacification device which delivers a debilitating shock to anyone it successfully targets.

Yet upon first use, it can’t help but seem a bit impractical, given that you’re forced to stand still while firing the taser, leaving you completely vulnerable to detection and attacks from any other enemy in the vicinity.

But here comes the rub - if you keep the shock going for around five seconds, your victim will suddenly burst into flames. So much for non-lethal, right?

Even accepting its limited range and how it effectively paralyzes you in place, the Air Taser emboldens players to embrace their inner pyromaniac, cackling with maniacal glee while whispering not-so-quietly to themselves, “Burn baby, burn.”
