From one weapon which makes an art out of immolation to one which spectacularly bungles it now, we have the M260B Flamethrower from 2010’s Aliens vs. Predator.

In theory, a big bugger-off flamethrower might seem like a great weapon to keep Aliens and Predators alike at bay, but in case of the former, there’s one major snag.

Y’see, once you douse a Xenomorph with a wall of flame, their instinct is to start running towards you in a blind panic, and within a few brief moments, they’ll explode.

Now, anyone who knows much about Xenomorph biology will recall that they have acid for blood. And so, upon their body forcefully exploding, they’ll paint you with white-hot acid if they’re close enough, killing you instantly.

Evidently, there’s a reason why Ripley only used a flamethrower on defenseless alien eggs in the movies.

All the same, for many players hosing an alien with fire and then trying to run away before it rains acid all over you basically became an unofficial mini-game in of itself.
