8 Utterly PATHETIC Video Game Weapons (We Can't Stop Using)
4. Tranq Gun - Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 2 introduced the Tranq Gun, allowing players to shoot enemy soldiers with non-lethal rounds which simply puts them to sleepy-byes.
And while options for players are certainly a good thing - especially in a series centered around stealthy infiltration - the Tranq Gun lacks the visceral thrill of wrapping your arm around a Genome Soldier’s windpipe and tightening your grip until their neck satisfying cracks. Too much?
The Tranq Gun certainly serves a function in allowing you to navigate areas without leaving a messy bloodbath in your wake, but there’s an argument to be made that it’s ultimately too effective for its own good.
The fact that you can aimlessly wander around and make soldiers pass out within a matter of seconds robs stealth encounters of much of their risk and strategy, whereas with conventional firearms you need to gauge whether pulling the trigger is actually worth it.
But let’s be honest - even if the Tranq Gun deprives the game of much of its gut-wrenching suspense, it’s just absurdly fun to use.
Holding guards up and then sending them to the land of nod with a single tranq round is compulsively addictive, and for the sickos among us, you might even hang around for them to wake up, only to immediately tranq them again.
