8 Video Game Achievements Made IMPOSSIBLE By RNG
4. Saint - Dead Rising
To state my intent loudly and clearly. I love the Dead Rising franchise. The whiplash mix of horror and comedy, the insane weapons you can create, and of course the utter thrill-ride of exploring entire cities swarming with the undead and deranged locals alike make for a Brompton cocktail experience that is sure to knock you on your ass.
However even as a die-hard fan even I have to admit that the series has had a tumultuous time when it comes to things like pacing, boss battles, and especially achievements, which range wildly from being incredibly fun to unlock to utter tests of your sanity.
Take for example "Saint" from the original Dead Rising, which will require you to have the patience of one in order to get around the absolutely abysmal A.I. To pop this 'cheev you'll need to rescue at least 50 survivors in the game of which there are only 53 possible ones. This means that entire playthroughs have to be orchestrated around guiding groups of survivors from point to point before dropping them off like a desperate parent at a childcare playpen.
Making this almost impossible however is the RNG that affects enemy placement, the aggression of zombies, and of course whether your party wants to actually show some semblance of self-preservation or just walk into a group of infected like they're looking for a hug.
This coupled with the game's arduous checkpoint system (translation: there isn't one) can see you reset the game over and over until you get that optimal run.
