8 Video Game Bugs That Became Features
6. Crash Team Racing
In the original Crash Team Racing, long-time fans will remember that Penta Penguin was left in the game as an unlockable character. Although Penta was technically unlockable via cheat code, it is clear he was added in a somewhat unfinished state.
Penta Penguin has a lot of strange oddities that no other characters have due to his character not being completed before release. For some reason, when grabbing a mask power up, Penta has a 50/50 chance of summoning either Aku Aku or Uka Uka. Every character in the game is divided into a good and bad team and given a mask power-up reflecting this, but for some reason, Penta exists in a realm between morality.
His most infamous bug however is his "Penguin Yay" voice lines. Instead of speaking like, y'know, a penguin, Penta has placeholder dialogue of a regular adult man (definitely not trying to imitate a penguin) saying "Penguin Yay 1" and "Penguin Yay 2".
In the Crash Team Racing remake, these lines were instead recorded on purpose. He can be heard saying "Penguin Yay 1" in a penguin voice under specific circumstances, and can still summon either Aku Aku or Uka Uka as his power-up.
