Oh look who it is, those bloody Fire Emblem jokers back again to take up even more gaming space! I bet they're bullying their way into the SMT-verse with all the subtlety of a hamm-

-wait what's this? A crossover game that barely features any crossover elements at all and is about a subject that neither franchise is known for?

What the bloody hell is going on here then?

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, alongside having a rather silly name, was originally pitched as being a proper mash-up between the ever-popular Shin Megami Tensei series and the ever-present Fire Emblem franchise, and according to sources would have involved time travel with choices made in the past that affected the present.

However what fans got to experience when the game dropped in 2015 was an entirely different beast, and by that, I mean that the game centered on pop idols and interdimensional beasts, with only the lightest waft of recognition given to Fire Emblem as characters in the game adopted the clothing choices and mannerisms of well known FE characters.

This was a veritable baker's dozen of "What!?" just from the plot alone but was a bit of a slap in the face of fans expecting something a little more equally weighted providing another layer of confusion. Still, that said the game was really well received with regards to it's battle system and design, so if you want your crossovers with a little less crossing over you could do a lot worse!
